Mare Island Field trip

E-mail Print PDF

What do you get when 14 photographers set up their tripods at a decommissioned navy base?  Answer:  Hundreds of images ranging from railroad tracks going nowhere to ship interiors frozen in time. See all the images here.

That’s what happened on April 10 as members of the Calistoga Camera Club traveled to Mare Island Naval Station in Vallejo to photograph the nicks and crannies of the areas that once built and repaired thousands of naval ships and subs from the Civil War to the Korean War.  The base, which was closed over 10 years ago, is a treasure of photographic possibilities.  Weather and age has peeled paint and rusted metal of the ships, buildings, and equipment that once hummed with activity.

Using equipment ranging from I-Phones to the most expensive SLRs, the photographers roamed the base for three hours looking for good shots.

Then it was off to Napoli Pizza for Italian food and beer, and to compare images.

A Test post from Flock

E-mail Print PDF

Hey folks - I'm finally using a Mac again, after a decade+. I'm using the Flock browser. Check it out. The reason I'm playing with this is to find a way for CCC memebers that use a Mac to post newsletters, field trip reports, etc to our website. Anytime a member has a fun day shooting pictures, be it with a group of CCC members or on their own, he or she could post a story about that adventure on our site.

Here's a picture

Flock makes you connect to a photo sharing service, the image is then automatically uploaded to that service (Picasa, Photobucket, etc) and then linked in the posting.

If this works nicely I'll upate this Help document with full instructions.
